Afenyo-Markin questions NADMO relief packages for Accra flood victims
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the relief items being distributed by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to victims of the recent floods in parts of Accra.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, 7 July, the Effutu MP questioned whether the items being supplied were adequate, claiming that some affected residents in communities including Nima and Accra New Town had received baked beans and instant noodles despite funds being allocated for flood relief.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the extent of the damage caused by the floods required a more comprehensive response, noting that many victims had lost their homes, personal belongings and means of livelihood.
He argued that government support should go beyond emergency food items and include essential supplies such as rice, maize and cooking oil, as well as financial assistance and livelihood support to help affected residents recover.
The Minority Leader also called for greater transparency in the procurement of the relief items and urged the authorities to broaden the support being provided to flood victims.
