C/R: Central Regional Minister urges pastors and students to promote good sanitation
The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Okyere Eduamoah, has urged pastors, church leaders and students across the region to promote good sanitation practices and help change public attitudes towards environmental cleanliness.
According to the minister, poor sanitation and indiscriminate littering have contributed significantly to the persistent flooding experienced in many parts of the country, particularly during the rainy season.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day celebration in Cape Coast, Mr Eduamoah said churches have an important role to play in encouraging responsible environmental behaviour.
He called on pastors to use their pulpits to educate congregants on the importance of keeping their homes, communities and public spaces clean.
The minister said sanitation is not solely the responsibility of government agencies but a shared obligation that requires the commitment of every citizen.
He noted that blocked drains, indiscriminate disposal of waste and poor waste management continue to worsen flooding, resulting in the destruction of property and the disruption of livelihoods.
Addressing students from various senior high schools who attended the event, Mr Eduamoah encouraged them to become ambassadors for cleanliness by refraining from littering and promoting proper waste disposal both in school and within their communities.
He said developing good sanitation habits from a young age would help build a more disciplined and environmentally conscious generation.
Mr Eduamoah further appealed to Ghanaians to embrace patriotism, discipline, responsibility and a positive mindset, adding that the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day should inspire citizens to reflect on their attitudes and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He urged the public to recognise that keeping the environment clean is an act of patriotism and a practical way of helping to prevent disasters such as flooding.
