Akufo-Addo: Claims I asked Prez. Mahama to protect Ofori-Atta are false
The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted claims that he is seeking a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama to obtain guarantees for the legal protection of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The clarification comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Mr Ofori-Atta and multiple anti-corruption agencies, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former president’s office described the reports as unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.
“The office wishes to make it clear that this publication is entirely false and a fabrication by the alleged source. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither considered such a course of action nor made any request or representation, directly or indirectly, to President John Dramani Mahama,” the statement said.
While reaffirming his commitment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law, the statement noted that although the former president is concerned for Mr Ofori-Atta due to family ties and his service under the Akufo-Addo administration, this concern does not extend to interfering with judicial or legal processes.
“Hopefully, this statement clarifies the issue,” the office concluded.
