Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) following a decisive win in the Association’s national elections held on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Dwumfuor secured 445 votes, representing 64.49% of the total ballots cast, defeating his closest contender, Charles Yao Mawusi, who polled 245 votes (35.51%).
The elections, supervised by the GJA Election Committee, took place at various regional voting centres, with over 800 accredited members participating in the exercise.
The polls were held to elect six national executive officers and multiple regional representatives to steer the affairs of the Association for the next three years.
Other key winners in the national executive race include:
Rebecca Ekpe of GBC, elected Vice President. She previously served as Public Affairs Officer and defeated Mary Mensah of the Graphic Communications Group.
Suleiman Mustapha of the Graphic Communications Group, elected Organising Secretary.
Zadok Kwame Gyesi, who secured the position of Public Affairs Officer.
In total, 12 candidates contested the six national executive positions, while 49 others vied for various regional roles.
The newly elected leadership is expected to spearhead major reforms and advocacy efforts, as the GJA navigates the evolving challenges facing Ghana’s media landscape.
