Ambassador urges journalists to prioritize accuracy in energy sector reporting
Former President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and immediate Board Chairman of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, has called on journalists to exercise diligence and precision in their reporting on the energy sector.
Speaking at a media training workshop organized by Energy News Africa Ltd in Accra, Amb. Blay Amihere underscored the critical nature of the energy sector and the risks posed by misinformation.
He urged journalists to engage industry experts, verify facts, and cross-check information rather than relying solely on politicians or unverified online sources.
“The energy sector is highly sensitive, and there are many false narratives surrounding it,” he stated.
“As independent reporters, journalists have a crucial role in holding all stakeholders accountable and ensuring the public is accurately informed.”
Drawing from his experience in the sector, Amb. Blay Amihere warned about the dangers of misleading information and its potential to create confusion and instability.
“I am not a prophet like those who have been making profits, but I can tell you that the energy sector is one of the biggest challenges this nation faces,” he remarked.
He emphasized that journalists must take responsibility for countering misinformation by being meticulous in their investigations and reporting.
His call to action reinforces the need for ethical journalism and the role of the media in shaping public understanding of Ghana’s energy landscape.
