Ameyaw-Akumfi released after weekend NIB's detention over GIIF probe

Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board, has been released from custody following his detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
His detention was linked to an ongoing investigation into financial transactions during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF).
The NIB apprehended Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi at his residence on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
He was subsequently taken to the NIB head office and later transferred to their facility in Kawukudi, Accra.
The specific details of the financial probe remain undisclosed, but reports suggest it pertains to a $2 million investment related to the Accra Sky Train project during his tenure at GIIF.
His legal counsel, Ken Kuranchie, confirmed the release and emphasized that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi voluntarily cooperated with the authorities throughout the process.
The situation has garnered public interest, with many calling for transparency in the investigation.
As of now, official statements from the NIB or related government agencies are yet to be issued.
The Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, established in 2014, aims to mobilize and manage financial resources for infrastructure projects across the country.
The recent developments have sparked discussions about the oversight and management of public funds within such institutions.
As the investigation continues, stakeholders and the public await further information regarding the specifics of the case and any potential implications for Ghana's infrastructure investment strategies.
