Amoakohene orders: Demolish all illegal structures behind COCOBOD building in Kumasi
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has ordered the demolition of all illegal structures erected behind the COCOBOD building at Asafo within the Kumasi Metropolis of the region.
Speaking at a Regional Heads of Department meeting organised by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) today, the minister declared that city authorities will not spare any unauthorised structures in the enclave.
Dr Amoakohene emphasised that the law must be enforced to protect the collective interest of the public against the parochial interests of a few individuals who have put the law into their own hands.
Following official verification, the minister disclosed that none of the occupiers possesses valid building or development permits for the area.
Addressing public criticism regarding why city authorities initially looked on while the structures were being built, the minister noted that the government's current "reset" mandate demands immediate, corrective action.
He stated that despite some of these illegal structures existing for the past eight years, drastic measures are now being deployed to clear them in line with the reset agenda.
The minister further reiterated the unwavering stance of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) to demolish all structures built on waterways across the region to prevent perennial flooding.
