A special thanksgiving service has been held in honour of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua at the St. Mark Anglican Church in Kyebi, Eastern Region.

The event brought together clergy, traditional leaders, former government officials, and members of the Anglican communion to celebrate the President’s leadership and service to Ghana.

During the ceremony, the Diocese unveiled a commemorative plaque in recognition of former President Akufo-Addo’s contribution to national development and the Church.

In a historic moment, the Diocese further conferred upon the former President the title of Lay Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Koforidua, following what church authorities described as “prayerful consideration.”

Former President Akufo-Addo expressed his profound gratitude to the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua and the wider Anglican communion across the country for the honour bestowed upon him.

He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the values of faith, humility, and service, which he said have guided his public life.

“I am deeply humbled by this recognition and remain ever grateful to the Anglican community for their prayers, guidance, and unwavering support,” the President said.

The Thanksgiving service featured hymns, prayers of thanksgiving, and tributes highlighting the former President’s lifelong association with the Anglican faith.

The appointment as Lay Canon is one of the highest honours the Anglican Church bestows on laypersons who have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership within society and the Church.
