New Gbawe East residents engaing the clean -up exercise

The Assembly Member for New Weija Gbawe East in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Sadiatu Issah, in partnership with the Weija Gbawe Municipal NADMO, has launched a massive clean-up exercise aimed at tackling persistent flooding in the area.

The exercise includes desilting gutters, removing unauthorised structures blocking waterways, and general cleaning to restore the free flow of water.

Weija Gbawe Municipal NADMO Director, Emmanuel Kwame Essel, blamed the flooding largely on human activities, particularly the construction of concrete structures over gutters.

He cautioned residents to desist from such practices, warning that they put both lives and property at risk.

Mr. Sadiatu Issah also raised concerns over the growing trend of residents erecting structures on waterways.

She appealed to the government to deploy security personnel to assist Assembly Members during clean-up exercises, stressing that their presence would deter non-compliance and ensure effective enforcement of sanitation regulations.

Supporting this call, a resident and architect, Freeman Agbomanyi, urged the Assembly to take decisive action against those obstructing gutters with illegal concrete works.

He emphasised that protecting the community from flooding requires collective responsibility and strict adherence to regulations.
