The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding an emergency meeting to review the court judgment in the case involving the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

According to a statement signed by the NPP's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the meeting is being attended by the party's leadership, its flagbearer and the party's legal team.

The statement said the meeting is aimed at thoroughly reviewing the judgment delivered in the Samreboi mining case and determining the party's next course of action.

It added that the NPP will communicate its official position and the decisions reached after the deliberations in due course.

Mr Frimpong also appealed to party members to remain calm and united.

"I respectfully urge all members of our great Party to rally behind the leadership during this challenging moment. Let us remain calm, united, disciplined, and steadfast in our commitment to the values and interests of the New Patriotic Party," the statement said.

The meeting follows the Accra High Court's decision to sentence Chairman Wontumi to 20 years' imprisonment over illegal mining activities on the Samreboi concession in the Western Region. The court also imposed a fine of 10,000 penalty units, with a default sentence of three years' imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
