Bono: Sunyani District Forest Manager calls for public support in protecting forest reserves

The New Sunyani District Forest Manager, Kofi Adu Gyemfi, has called on the general public to support efforts to protect the region’s forest reserves. He emphasized that the Forestry Commission alone cannot safeguard the forests and stressed the need for collaboration with all stakeholders in the Sunyani municipality.
Speaking in an interview with CTV and Accra FM’s Bono and Ahafo Regional Correspondent, Odeneho Kwesi Appiah, as part of activities marking this year’s International Day of Forests, Mr. Gyemfi highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in forest conservation.
He noted that forests serve multiple essential functions, and their preservation requires a united approach.
Mr. Gyemfi urged individuals engaging in illegal activities such as unauthorized logging and tree destruction to desist, warning that the Forestry Commission has implemented stringent measures to curb such activities.
This year’s International Day of Forests is themed “Forest and Food,” aligning with the Forestry Commission’s initiative to allocate land to farmers for both Agriculture and tree planting.
According to Mr. Gyemfi, this collaboration between farmers and the Forestry Commission has significantly contributed to food production and environmental sustainability.
He reiterated the need for continuous stakeholder engagement and public support to ensure the protection and sustainable use of forest resources in the Sunyani municipality.
