The Central Regional Coordinating Council and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly on Friday joined the nationwide clean-up exercise directed by President John Dramani Mahama following the recent flooding in parts of the country.

The exercise was led by the Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, who, together with staff of the Regional Coordinating Council, cleaned the council's premises and other public institutions in the region.

The regional minister urged residents to participate in the clean-up exercise to help prevent disasters that could threaten lives and property.

In Cape Coast, the Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, George Justice Arthur, and staff of the Assembly also took part in the exercise to ensure the metropolis remained clean in line with the President's directive.

The assembly provided wheelbarrows, shovels, Wellington boots and brooms to support the exercise.

During the operation, some goods belonging to traders described as recalcitrant for selling and keeping their shops open during the exercise were confiscated pending further action.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited also participated in the exercise by providing personnel and equipment to support the clean-up and evacuate refuse containers across the Cape Coast Metropolis.
