Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised President John Dramani Mahama's response to the June 29 floods, questioning why the President has not visited affected communities despite conducting an aerial assessment.

"We have not seen the President visiting families. We saw him in the air," Mr Afenyo-Markin said.

He argued that no government official had reached out to families who lost relatives in the floods and that there had been no visible support for residents whose properties were destroyed.

"What we know is the president was comfortably in a helicopter, in the name of surveying, finding out, but the people who suffered are in their homes," he said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also questioned whether the government was compiling data on those affected by the disaster.

The Effutu MP said six communities in his constituency had been submerged by the floods.

"They are in pain. I've spent days with my people, interacting with them and their chiefs," he said.

He added that floodwaters had cut off roads, leaving farms inaccessible and causing economic hardship for residents.

"Beyond the optics, government must demonstrate serious action," Mr Afenyo-Markin stated.

In response, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, described the concerns raised by the Minority Leader as “bizarre and misguided politicking”.
