Circle fire aftermath: Authorities clear debris, plan safer trading spaces
Authorities have begun clearing the site of Monday’s fire outbreak at the Circle commercial enclave, demolishing burnt scrap structures and makeshift stalls to secure the area and prevent further hazards.
Heavy-duty excavators are removing debris, while officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) manage traffic and ensure public safety.
The fire destroyed several trading structures, leaving many traders displaced.
Assembly members, disaster management officials, and representatives from traders’ unions are on-site coordinating efforts to decongest the area and reduce the risk of future incidents.
Discussions are ongoing to temporarily relocate affected traders to the Circle VVIP Station area, where safer, more organised trading structures are planned.
Authorities have identified unregulated trading, outdated electrical wiring, and the accumulation of scrap materials as key factors contributing to the heightened fire risk in the enclave.
The clearance and restructuring efforts are part of a broader initiative to create a safer and more orderly trading environment in the Circle area.
