Major water pipeline burst disrupts supply across Eastern Accra
Residents and businesses in the eastern parts of Accra are facing a sudden water crisis following a major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline on Monday, 19th January.
The incident has caused widespread disruption to the water supply across several communities, including Tema, Ashaiman, Spintex, Nungua, Teshie, and parts of East Legon.
Ghana Water Limited (GWL) confirmed that its engineers and technical teams responded immediately and have been working non-stop to repair the damaged pipeline.
Due to the size of the transmission main and the technical complexity involved, restoring the water supply is expected to take time.
GWL emphasised that the repair work requires careful handling to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency.
In a press release, GWL apologised for the inconvenience and reassured the public that every effort is being made to restore the normal water supply as quickly as possible.
The utility company also urged essential service providers, including schools and hospitals, to contact GWL for support during the disruption.
Assistance can be requested via toll-free lines, WhatsApp, phone numbers, or through GWL’s social media channels.
The affected areas span the entire Tema Metropolis and surrounding communities such as Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, and parts of East Legon.
GWL has promised to provide updates as repair works progress and urged residents to remain patient while efforts are made to restore water service to all impacted communities.
