Court remands Abronye DC over alleged breach of bail conditions
The Accra High Court has ordered the remand of Bono Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, after finding that he failed to meet conditions attached to his bail.
The decision followed the court’s determination that Abronye DC did not comply with an earlier directive requiring him to surrender his passport to the court.
The NPP regional chairman was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.
Abronye DC is standing trial on a charge of false publication in a case being prosecuted by the State.
He was granted bail by the High Court last month after spending time in remand custody following his initial court appearance. Among the conditions for his release was the submission of his passport to the court.
The court, however, concluded that he had not fulfilled that requirement, leading to the revocation of his bail and an order for him to be held in police custody.
Meanwhile, the substantive case remains before the Circuit Court, where proceedings relating to the false publication charge are continuing.
