Ga Mantse honours priestesses with traditional gifts ahead of 'Odadao' rites
The Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II, has presented white cloths, known as Klala, and tokens of appreciation to the 'Worwoi Awoyei' (priestesses) in recognition of their dedicated service during the 'Nmaa Dumo' rites.
The gesture forms part of traditional preparations leading to Odadao, the final rite that signals the lifting of the ban on drumming and noisemaking ahead of the annual Homowo festivities.
The presentation was made to acknowledge the spiritual role and commitment of the priestesses in the observance of the rites, which are central to the cultural and traditional calendar of the Ga State.
Odadao is a key ceremonial milestone in the lead-up to Homowo, marking the transition from the period of solemn observance to the resumption of cultural celebrations, including drumming, dancing, and other festive activities.
The Ga Mantse’s gesture was described as a demonstration of appreciation for the custodians of tradition and their contribution to the preservation of Ga cultural heritage.
The Homowo festival, celebrated by the Ga people, remains one of Ghana’s most significant cultural events, symbolising unity, thanksgiving, and the remembrance of historical resilience.
