Dec. 7 polls: Oppong Nkrumah questions how NDC’s 24-hour economy answers universal cost of living crisis

Before going to the polls on December 7, Ghanaians have to ask “what are the main issues that drive this election,” Minister for Works & Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
He spoke on Class 91.3 FM’s Class Morning Show in an exclusive interview, Thursday, September 5.
For the 2024 elections, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is led by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia whose message is centred on digitalisation, while the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is led by former President John Mahama whose message is centred on a freshly proposed 24-hour economic policy.
Oppong Nkrumah speaking to Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang challenged John Mahama’s 24-hour economy’s promise to reset Ghana’s economy.
“I’d like to hear how the 24-hour economy addresses cost of living,” Oppong Nkrumah said. “I’ve not heard how the NDC’s 24-hour economy answers the question of cost of living.”
Concerning the current economic crisis, the lawyer and former journalist asserted, universally, nations are reeling and confronting the same issues as Ghana.
Thus, the former Information Minister urged voters to ask themselves, “What are the solutions that either of them [flagbearers] are proposing? Which of these solutions are feasible?”
The Ofoase-Ayirebi MP's remarks acknowledge the NDC's revolutionary vision to extend business hours in Ghana to increase productivity and economic growth yet underlines what critics have called a lack of practicality and implementation strategies.
