The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has raised alarm over a viral video showing male students from Sakafia Islamic Senior High School and Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi openly displaying charms they claim give them spiritual protection.

The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows some of the students revealing charms concealed beneath their school uniforms, while others openly exhibit them. The video has sparked widespread public reaction, with many expressing concern about student safety, discipline, and the growing incidents of violence and misconduct in senior high schools.

Reacting to the issue, Dr. Apaak disclosed in a Facebook post on Thursday, January 15, 2026, that he has referred the matter to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for immediate attention.

“I have forwarded the disturbing video and related report to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for the necessary action,” he said.

The Deputy Minister stressed that government will not tolerate acts of violence or indiscipline within educational institutions or among students from different schools, reaffirming its commitment to restoring order in the school system.

He also appealed to parents to play a more active role in shaping the conduct of their children by closely monitoring their behaviour while in school and consistently advising them against wrongdoing.

According to Dr. Apaak, the reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) is a deliberate policy move to strengthen cooperation between schools and parents, particularly at the pre-tertiary level.

“PTAs were restored because we believe parents have an important and collaborative role to play in the education and discipline of their children, especially before they enter tertiary institutions,” he added.
