Deputy Agric Minister engages ginger farmers in Oti over rising prices
The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region, John Dumelo, on Thursday, met with ginger growers in the Oti Region to discuss challenges affecting production and rising market prices.
The engagement follows a significant increase in the price of ginger, which farmers attribute largely to low harvest yields in recent seasons.
Producers say reduced output has affected supply levels, leading to higher prices on the market.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister interacted with farmers to better understand the underlying causes of the shortfall, including concerns about disease, input costs, weather conditions, and access to improved planting materials.
He indicated that the Ministry is committed to working closely with farmers and other stakeholders to identify practical solutions aimed at boosting productivity, stabilising supply, and ensuring fair returns for growers while protecting consumers from excessive price volatility.
Farmers welcomed the visit and called for targeted interventions such as technical support, improved seedlings, and enhanced extension services to help address production constraints.
According to the Deputy Minister, the engagement forms part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen agricultural value chains and improve food security across the country.
