Eric Opoku visits Cardinal Peter Turkson at the Vatican

Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr Eric Opoku, has paid a courtesy visit to His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kwadwo Appiah Turkson at the Vatican, following his participation in the 44th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference and the 6th AU-EU Ministerial Conference on Agriculture, both held in Rome, Italy.
The meeting between the Minister and the esteemed Ghanaian cardinal focused on Ghana’s agricultural development and the government’s renewed efforts to transform the sector. Mr Opoku briefed Cardinal Turkson on key policies, including the Feed Ghana programme and the broader Agricultural Transformation Agenda, which aim to modernise farming, boost food production, and add value to agricultural produce.
The Minister emphasised the government’s vision of leveraging science, technology, and Public-Private Partnerships to enhance productivity and ensure food security across the country.
He also lauded His Eminence for his humility and unwavering dedication to the service of humanity.
His Eminence Cardinal Turkson, a long-time advocate for climate justice and sustainable development, shared insights from a recent research paper he presented on Agriculture and climate change.
He commended the Ghanaian government’s commitment to Agricultural modernisation and pledged his support for future initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaian farmers.
He assured Mr. Opoku of his willingness to assist whenever his expertise or influence is needed to advance Ghana’s agricultural goals on the global stage.
