FDA closes KFC Osu branch and popular food outlets along Osu Oxford Street over hygiene violations
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has closed a number of food service establishments along Oxford Street in Osu for operating without the required food hygiene permits.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, July 16, forms part of the Authority’s ongoing campaign to ensure food businesses comply with public health and safety regulations.
According to the FDA, inspections revealed that the affected establishments were operating without the mandatory Food Hygiene Permit Certificate, a legal requirement for all food service providers in Ghana.
The Authority said the businesses will remain shut until they satisfy the necessary regulatory conditions and obtain the required certification.
In a statement, the FDA reiterated that operators who fail to secure the mandatory permit risk enforcement action, including the closure of their premises and possible sanctions.
The Authority also urged all food business operators to regularise their operations by obtaining the appropriate permits to ensure compliance with food safety standards and avoid penalties.
