The Economy and Development Committee of Parliament has warned that ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) that fail to appear before it for the review of the 2025 Annual Progress Report (APR) will face sanctions.

Chairman of the Committee Eric Afful said the exercise is intended to assess the performance of public institutions, monitor the implementation of government programmes, examine budget utilisation and identify challenges affecting service delivery.

He stressed that no institution would be allowed to evade accountability, warning that any MDA that ignores the Committee's invitation should expect disciplinary action.

Mr Afful said the Committee is committed to ensuring the prudent use of public resources through rigorous oversight. He expressed confidence that the outcome of the review would strengthen governance, improve efficiency across the public sector and enhance the well-being of citizens.

Meanwhile, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has reported that although Ghana recorded significant economic gains in 2025, several development challenges persist.

According to the Commission, these include high youth unemployment, poor maternal health outcomes and continued shortcomings in public service delivery.

Ranking Member of the Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, also highlighted mounting pressures in the health sector.

Referring to findings in the 2025 Annual Progress Report, he said neonatal cases continue to increase, while ambulance response times have worsened because of the absence of dedicated funding.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah urged all ministries, departments and agencies to cooperate fully with the Committee by providing accurate and transparent information on the use of public funds.
