The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has disclosed that he inherited significant financial liabilities upon assuming office from his predecessor, Kwasi Agyemang Busia.

According to him, the debt amounted to over 200 million dollars and 300 million Ghana cedis.

Speaking on Accra100.5 FM’s Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Mr. Kotey explained that the challenges faced by the authority were linked to what he described as issues of incompetence and arrogance during the previous administration.

He further indicated that fear of victimisation prevented workers at the authority from raising concerns during that period.

Mr. Kotey stated that he has since cleared all the debts inherited from his predecessor.

He also revealed that he rejected over 400 million Ghana cedis in bribes in an effort to protect the country from corrupt deals.

In addition, he pledged to prosecute all workers who gained employment at the authority with fake certificates before proceeding with their dismissal.
