GA/R: Residents of Baba Junction appeal for urgent storm drain intervention
Residents of Baba Junction at Adenta New Legon have appealed to the La-Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region and the central government to urgently address persistent flooding in the area, which they describe as a growing threat to lives and property.
According to the residents, perennial flooding at the junction has turned the area into a dangerous zone, especially during the rainy season, putting both residents and students at risk of drowning when floodwaters rise.
Speaking at a news conference, the residents called for immediate intervention, particularly the construction of a bridge over an open gutter at the junction.
They said such a structure would help curb the destruction caused by the floods and prevent further loss of life and damage to property.
The spokesperson for the residents, Mr. Eugene Quashie Yeboah, noted that the situation has severely disrupted academic activities, as schools are often forced to close whenever rainfall is imminent due to safety concerns.
The residents are urging authorities to treat the issue as an emergency, warning that continued delays could lead to tragic consequences if decisive action is not taken.
