The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reiterated government’s commitment, through her ministry, to support initiatives that empower local organisations, foster innovation and advance community-led development.

The minister stated this at the regional convening of the Shifting the Power programme held on Monday, December 1, 2025, where she officially launched the Civil Society Strengthening Programme (CSSP) strategy in her capacity as the guest of honour. 

The event, organised by STAR-Ghana Foundation and its partners, brought together civil society leaders, development partners, and international organisations for the unveiling of the CSSP Strategy. 

Describing the gathering as an important step toward reimagining civil society’s role in development, the minister noted that the launch of the CSSP strategy was more than a formal presentation. She stressed that it represented a renewed regional commitment to strengthening local leadership, building organisational resilience, and deepening partnerships across Ghana, Zambia and Malawi.

Highlighting the critical role of civil society in Ghana’s social development efforts, she emphasised that effective delivery of gender, children and social protection mandates depended on strong collaboration with CSOs. She commended the sector for amplifying the voices of women and children, promoting accountability, strengthening community structures, and providing evidence that informed national policies and programmes.

The minister further noted that the ministry continues to prioritise platforms that bring government and civil society together to shape policies and respond to emerging issues affecting vulnerable groups.

She praised STAR Ghana Foundation and its partners for their significant investments in organisational development, partnerships and capacity strengthening, describing their contributions as invaluable to Ghana’s progress.

As the event coincided with World AIDS Day, the minister took the opportunity to highlight the need for continued advocacy and community-led action in the national HIV response.

She urged all stakeholders to help reduce new infections and to ensure that every person, especially vulnerable groups, could access treatment and social support without stigma or barriers.
