Ghana, Türkiye discusses strengthening defence cooperation
Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has held bilateral discussions with Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, Yasar Guler, aimed at deepening defence cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Deputy Minister, the meeting highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with African countries, particularly Ghana, through enhanced collaboration in defence and security matters.
During the discussions, both sides agreed on the need to expedite action on outstanding Memoranda of Understanding on defence cooperation to ensure that planned areas of collaboration are translated into practical outcomes.
Mr. Brogya Genfi also expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the Turkish government for the hospitality extended during previous official visits by Ghanaian delegations, including the visit of the Ghana National College of Defence Studies last year and the recent trip by Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
The meeting was attended by Ghana’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Nasiru-Deen, as well as the Director of Plans, Research and Development of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Joseph Vander-Pallen.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by Ghana and Türkiye to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual strategic interest, including defence, security, and institutional capacity building.
