Ghana is preparing to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) learning tools into schools nationwide, following an announcement by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.

In a post shared on Facebook on Friday, January 23, 2026, the minister disclosed that he recently held discussions with a senior Google executive during the ongoing Generative AI Summit in the United Kingdom. The engagement focused on widening access to AI-powered education while ensuring its safe and ethical application in classrooms.

According to Mr. Iddrisu, the meeting explored ways to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in Ghana and across the African continent through innovative digital solutions.

He revealed that Google has committed to providing Ghana with AI-based educational resources at no cost to users. These tools will be aligned with the national curriculum and will include instructional materials for teachers, student learning content, and frameworks to guide the responsible use of artificial intelligence in education. The initiative is expected to benefit learners regardless of their geographical location or economic background.

The rollout forms part of Google’s wider $37 million investment aimed at advancing AI research and digital capacity building across Africa. In Ghana, the programme also involves partnerships with the University of Ghana and the GDI Hub.

The initiative is designed to equip students with essential digital competencies while positioning Ghana as a frontrunner in the adoption of AI-driven education on the continent.

Minister Iddrisu подчерк that Ghana’s approach goes beyond simply adopting new technologies, noting that the country intends to play an active role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence education in Africa through ethical and responsible implementation.
