Health Minister calls for audit of health facilities in Oti Region
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed that all health facilities in the Oti Region undergo a thorough review as part of measures to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve patient safety.
The instruction follows a three-day working tour of the region, during which the Minister met newly assigned medical officers and inspected conditions at selected hospitals and health centres.
As part of the visit, Mr. Akandoh held separate consultations with the Regional Coordinating Council, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and other stakeholders. Talks centred on strategies to attract and retain healthcare personnel, address infrastructure and logistics shortfalls, and enhance service quality across the region.
Addressing officials, the Minister urged local authorities to support newly posted doctors and ensure their smooth integration into the health system. He stressed the need for immediate action, calling for the formation of small committees to carry out a full assessment of facilities and identify areas requiring intervention.
He underscored the government’s resolve to reverse existing challenges in the region’s health sector, insisting that the current situation must improve in the coming year.
Mr. Akandoh reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing fair access to quality healthcare, especially in regions that remain underserved. He added that the proposed assessment would help uncover structural weaknesses and inform policy actions aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and overall health outcomes in the Oti Region.
