Humbled by support, Bawumia thanks delegates and team
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to his campaign team, party officials, and supporters as early returns from the party’s presidential primary indicate he is ahead with over half of the votes counted.
Addressing the media at his Accra office on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia described the primary race as a nationwide and challenging contest, emphasizing that his progress was a result of collective effort and dedication from his supporters.
“I am truly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. The campaign has been a spirited effort across all regions, and this outcome would not have been possible without the commitment of the team around me,” he said.
He singled out his campaign leadership team, including National Campaign Coordinator Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Campaign Manager Fred Opare Ansah, as well as the Members of Parliament who endorsed his bid, for their significant contributions. He also acknowledged the support of party executives, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and members of the press for facilitating a smooth electoral process.
Dr. Bawumia paid tribute to the NPP’s past leaders, including Prof. Adu Boahen, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, noting that their groundwork had been vital to the party’s development. “It is a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility to build on their legacy,” he said, also recognizing the efforts of former Members of Parliament in strengthening the party.
Provisional vote tallies from multiple constituencies show Dr. Bawumia leading in key strongholds, positioning him ahead of his rivals as counting continues nationwide.
