Interior Ministry probes claims of attempted attack on Special Prosecutor
The Ministry of the Interior has begun steps to investigate reports that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, was targeted in two separate assassination attempts while carrying out official duties for the state.
The allegation surfaced during a December 6, 2025, appearance on the television programme Newsfile by the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko.
In the same interview, Mr. Darko further claimed that he had previously been arrested, handcuffed, and assaulted by as many as 17 police officers.
In a statement released in Accra on December 8, the Ministry acknowledged awareness of the claims and described them as serious, given the potential security risks and the impact on public officials involved in anti-corruption work.
The Ministry noted that initial engagement with Mr. Kissi Agyebeng suggests the alleged assassination attempts occurred in past years.
However, preliminary checks have not revealed any formal complaints or reports lodged at any police station or with state security agencies regarding threats to his life.
Despite this, the Minister of the Interior has directed that a thorough investigation be conducted into the alleged assassination plots, emphasising that offences do not become irrelevant with time and must be examined irrespective of when they are said to have occurred.
In addition, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant institutions have been instructed to look into Mr. Darko’s allegation that he was mistreated by police officers.
The Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided once investigations are completed and appropriate actions taken.
Reiterating its duty to safeguard citizens and public servants, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all individuals and maintaining an environment where people can perform their lawful responsibilities without fear.
