Komenda Sugar Factory: Govt to engage transaction advisor to secure strategic investor – Trade Minister
Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has disclosed that the ministry has prioritised the engagement of a transaction advisor to package the Komenda Sugar Factory and secure a strategic investor.
Answering questions on the floor of Parliament, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, she said the move is expected to form part of the 2026 budget measures aimed at operationalising both the factory and its associated farms.
“Given the importance Government attaches to the factory, the Ministry has prioritiSed the engagement of a transaction advisor to package the factory and secure a strategic investor to operationalise the factory and farms in the 2026 budget,” the Minster stated.
The sector minister noted that upon assuming office this year, she visited Komenda to engage with traditional leaders, the Member of Parliament, local authorities, farmers, and other key stakeholders to assess the status of the Komenda Sugar Factory firsthand.
Following the visit and a detailed report to government, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was constituted to conduct a comprehensive review of the factory’s status and chart a path toward its revival.
The IMC has been tasked to carry out a thorough technical assessment of the factory’s assets, including installed machinery, production lines, auxiliary facilities, and existing liabilities. The committee is also reviewing the factory’s financial position and business viability, including estimating the human resource and capital investment required for a successful turnaround.
In addition, the committee is conducting an integrated assessment of the raw material supply chain, examining land availability, out-grower potential, logistics, and possible partnerships. It is expected to propose a sustainable model to ensure reliable sugarcane supply for efficient production.
The IMC is further mandated to develop a clear roadmap to guide the transition of the facility from its current state into a fully operational factory, ensuring institutional, regulatory, and logistical readiness.
According to the minister, the committee has already submitted an interim report and is currently finalising a comprehensive report on the overall status of the factory.
