Kwahu West MCE Issues two-week ultimatum ahead of major decongestion exercise in Nkawkaw
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Mr. Tamimu Halidu, has issued a firm two-week ultimatum to traders and drivers operating in unauthorised areas within Nkawkaw to relocate to designated trading and parking zones.
This directive comes ahead of a planned decongestion exercise set to commence on June 9, 2025.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in collaboration with traditional authorities in Nkawkaw, aims to clear pavements and unauthorised parking spots that have increasingly hindered free movement in the town.
Mr. Halidu emphasised the urgent need to restore order and enhance the town’s infrastructure and aesthetics.
He said, despite anticipated resistance or threats, including spiritual curses, he remains undeterred in his resolve to enforce the bylaws.
“I have given them ample time.
This exercise is not about personal interest; it is about doing what is right for the development of Nkawkaw,” the MCE stated.
He added that the Assembly has made adequate preparations to ensure that affected traders and drivers are relocated to approved areas without disruption to their livelihoods.
The decongestion effort is expected to significantly improve pedestrian safety, traffic flow, and the overall livability of Nkawkaw. Residents and commuters have welcomed the move, expressing hope that it will bring lasting order to the busy town centre.
