President John Dramani Mahama

President John Mahama has announced the establishment of three international panels to advance the global campaign for reparatory justice following the United Nations' recognition of the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

The President made the announcement while addressing delegates at a High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparatory Justice in Accra.

According to him, the initiative represents a major step in ongoing international efforts to secure justice, recognition and restitution for the descendants of enslaved Africans.

The three bodies are the Global Advisory Panel on Reparatory Justice, the Expert Panel on the Restitution of Cultural Artefacts, and the Global Legal Panel on Reparatory Justice.

President Mahama said the panels will help drive the next phase of advocacy and action on reparatory justice at the international level.
