Majority defends BoG, says GH¢19bn loss came from stabilisation policies
The Majority Caucus in Parliament has defended the Bank of Ghana, praising the institution for what it says is a significant improvement in the performance of the Ghana cedi since the National Democratic Congress assumed office.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, April 30, the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Issah Atta, said the central bank deserves recognition for helping to stabilise the local currency rather than facing criticism.
He explained that measures introduced by the Bank of Ghana, including monetary and financial interventions, have contributed to renewed confidence in the cedi and improved the country’s economic outlook.
According to the lawmaker, the local currency has shown stronger performance in recent months compared to the difficulties recorded in 2024, when the cedi experienced heavy depreciation.
Mr. Atta added that the recent stability of the currency reflects better economic management and coordinated efforts by the central bank to strengthen the economy.
