Minister Buah rallies Ghanaians to support ‘Tree for Life’ reforestation campaign

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has issued a nationwide call to action, urging all Ghanaians to fully embrace the ‘Tree for Life’ Reforestation Initiative, a key government programme aimed at restoring the country’s degraded ecosystems and fighting climate change.
Speaking during a commemorative tree-planting ceremony at Kwabenya Community Senior High School on World Environment Day (June 5, 2025), Minister Buah emphasised the initiative’s crucial role in preserving biodiversity, improving environmental health, and securing the nation’s ecological future for generations to come.
The “Tree for Life” campaign, officially launched in March 2025 by President John Dramani Mahama in Nkawie, Ashanti Region, stands as a flagship component of the government’s ambitious environmental strategy.
It seeks to rejuvenate forest reserves, reverse land degradation, and promote long-term sustainability through mass public participation.
President Mahama, who joined the Kwabenya event, lauded Mr. Buah’s leadership and vision, noting that the campaign would reshape Ghana’s environmental narrative and instil a sense of responsibility among citizens, especially the youth.
To drive nationwide participation, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is rolling out a large-scale seedling distribution programme in partnership with regional and district-level agencies.

The initiative will also tie into education-focused programmes such as “One Child, One Tree,” which encourages students to plant and nurture trees as part of their civic duty and environmental education.
“With every seed we plant today, we’re investing in a greener, more resilient Ghana,” Minister Buah stated.
“Let’s rise to the moment, protect our forests, and build a legacy of sustainability for future generations.”
The “Tree for Life” campaign is expected to mobilise millions of citizens, schools, and organisations in a united effort to restore Ghana’s natural heritage.
