Minister for Roads and Highways tours Eastern, Volta and Oti to assess road works
Roads and Highways Minister Govern Kwame Agbodza has begun another round of inspections of ongoing road projects, this time focusing on key infrastructure works in the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions.
The exercise is aimed at evaluating the pace and quality of construction, ensuring contractors meet agreed timelines and addressing challenges that could delay the delivery of critical road projects.
During the tour, the Minister is expected to inspect the rehabilitation of the Atimpoku–Asikuma Junction road, maintenance works on the Asikuma Junction–Have road, reconstruction of the Have–Hohoe stretch, as well as rehabilitation of the Hohoe–Jasikan–Nkwanta–Dambai corridor.
The latest inspection follows similar visits to other parts of the country, where Mr Agbodza directed contractors to remain on site and deliver projects according to specification, warning that poor performance and unjustified delays would not be tolerated.
Earlier monitoring exercises led to the replacement of some contractors over unsatisfactory performance, while others were instructed to speed up work or face possible termination of their contracts.
To strengthen oversight, the Minister has also called on members of the public to support the Ministry's monitoring efforts by reporting stalled or abandoned road projects through photographs and videos submitted via social media or directly to the Ministry.
According to Mr Agbodza, public participation will enhance accountability, help identify challenges early and ensure contractors fulfil their contractual obligations.
The nationwide inspection forms part of government's efforts to improve the country's road network, enforce quality standards and ensure public funds allocated to infrastructure projects deliver value for money.
