Minority in parliament rejects government's explanation on the return of Sedina Tamakloe, demands disclosure of prison facility holding her
The Minority in Parliament has rejected the government’s explanation regarding the whereabouts of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, describing the information released so far as inadequate and unsatisfactory.
The caucus questioned why government officials have failed to provide specific details, including when she arrived in Ghana, who received her upon arrival, and where she is currently being held.
According to the Minority, demands for such information are legitimate and necessary in the interest of transparency and accountability.
Addressing the media, member of Parliament for Effia Isaac Boamah Nyarko says the Ghanaian public deserves a comprehensive account of the former MASLOC boss’s status following reports of her return to the country.
He argued that withholding such information only fuels speculation and public uncertainty, particularly given the widespread public interest in the case and the extensive legal processes that preceded her return.
The Minority further stressed that if the government fails to provide the requested details voluntarily, it will resort to all available parliamentary mechanisms to compel accountability.
"Government communication on Sedina is a very terse one. We are having an accountable democracy where you expect government to provide full details in terms of where she was received and where she has been sent to, exactly who received her, and then the details as to whether she's in there to serve the full sentence as we have her convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction," he said.
"We want definitive information from the Minister for Government Communications. Exactly what is the status of Sedina in terms of her arrival in Ghana in prison custody?" he said.
"If they provide us with the exact details, then Ghanaians would have the opportunity to understand that she's in to serve the full term of her conviction. If the government had given us all the information, we wouldn't be in this state of speculation," he said
"It is not adequate for a government spokesperson to say that she is in prison custody; you can be under the care of prisons and still be in one home or the other. You can be in the hospital and still be under the care of the prison service," he state
Meanwhile Member of Parliament for Garu, Thomas Anabe says the Mahama administration will not relent in its efforts to ensure that Sedina Tomakloe serves her jail term, as a demonstration of the government's commitment to the fight against corruption.
