The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has launched a scathing attack on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), accusing the agency of "peddling untruth" and abusing its powers in the arrest and detention of the party's Director of Communications, Dennis "Miracles" Aboagye.

In an exclusive interview with Classfmonline.com, Nana B argued that Aboagye had cooperated with investigators and questioned why he was arrested on arrival in Ghana, detained without immediate access to his lawyers and family, and later granted what he described as excessive bail conditions.

"And the way and manner in which state institutions go about arresting people. Look at the Miracles Aboagye case. He's been cooperating with EOCO. You do not tell him that you need him. He is not running away from justice. He is not a fugitive. He is coming into his own country. And then you arrest him without telling him the reasons for his arrest," he bemoaned.

He further criticised the handling of Aboagye after his arrest.

"Then you hand him to immigration who then hand him over to EOCO. EOCO keeps him for two days without access to his lawyers, to his family members, his wife, his friends, party leaders," he alleged.

Nana B also took issue with the bail conditions imposed after nearly four hours of interrogation.

"And then on Monday, when you start the interrogation, you undertake the interrogation for almost four hours. Then you slap this gentleman with a GHS50 million bill sum, with three sureties, two to be justified," he underlined.

According to him, investigators never questioned Aboagye about the alleged GH¢55 million case that EOCO later cited publicly.

"Meanwhile, during your interrogation, you never mentioned anything about a certain investigation into a GHS55 million case. Nothing of that sort came up. Meanwhile, there was a statement to the public that said this was an investigation," he said.

Nana B further accused EOCO of unfairly linking Aboagye's case to that of another suspect to create a false public narrative.

"And in fact it was even disingenuous for EOCO to have lumped the then accountant Gerald Appiah and Miracles matter together and then go on to make a statement that the said accountant has already agreed to refund or he's refunding the said loot," he said.

"Where from this propaganda?" he charged. "This is a hallmark of an institution that is peddling untruth."
