Suspect arrested at KIA

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a British national and two Ghanaian accomplices at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle 38 kilograms of substances suspected to be cannabis.

The suspects were picked up during a routine inspection at the arrival terminal, where security officers intercepted two pieces of luggage containing 25 slabs of the suspected narcotics.

The substances were discovered hidden in false compartments of the suitcases.

According to NACOC, the packaging and labelling of the drugs were consistent with methods used in international trafficking. The substances have since been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for laboratory testing.

The three suspects are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

NACOC says the arrests form part of intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking through Ghana’s entry points.
