The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that recent environmental disasters, including flooding, mudslides, landslides, and building collapses, have resulted in 18 deaths across 13 districts in the Central Region.

The severe weather incidents have impacted more than 5,000 individuals and left 377 people internally displaced following the destruction of 58 buildings.

Central Regional Director of NADMO, Kwesi Dawood, stated that the organization is currently conducting a comprehensive needs assessment across the affected communities to determine the required level of aid.

Dawood revealed that NADMO's emergency relief supplies have been severely depleted by consecutive flood-related incidents since May. Consequently, the organization is appealing to corporate entities, non-governmental organizations, faith-based groups, and private individuals for urgent relief item donations.

To mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases and potential epidemics, NADMO is partnering with the Hydrological Authority, National Security, Environmental Health Departments, and the Ghana Health Service to fumigate affected areas.

This public health measure became necessary after floodwaters inundated several local cemeteries. Dawood also commended the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service for their critical roles in emergency response and rescue operations during the crisis.
