NDC Legal Director dismisses NPP’s criticism of Ibrahim Mahama’s Azuma Resources deal

The Director of Legal Affairs of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has described as “very interesting” the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) renewed attempts to implicate businessman Ibrahim Mahama in the ongoing debate over the acquisition of Azuma Resources.
Reacting to allegations on his Facebook wall and comparisons made by NPP figures, Mr. Tameklo clarified that Azuma Resources is not a state-owned entity and that the transaction involving Mr. Mahama began under a previous administration.
“The NPP’s desperation to find fault with Ibrahim Mahama is very interesting,” he said.
“Azuma Resources is a privately held company, not a state-owned mine.
Imagine the conversation if it were publicly owned.”
Mr. Tameklo dismissed attempts by some NPP members to liken the transaction to the controversial proposed sale of SSNIT hotels to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
He questioned the validity of such comparisons, stressing that the contexts are entirely different.
“What is the basis for the comparison?” he asked.
“You are comparing a private transaction with a public asset acquisition attempt by a sitting cabinet minister.
The two scenarios are not the same.”
The NDC legal chief maintained that Mr. Mahama’s business dealings are legitimate and have followed due process, adding that the attempt to politicise a private business venture is yet another distraction from the NPP’s internal issues.
