A delegation from the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, as part of a research exercise on the theme, “National Cohesion and its Role in Promoting Security and Sustainable Development.”

The visit forms part of the College’s field studies aimed at gathering information and perspectives on national cohesion and its contribution to security and sustainable development in Ghana.

The delegation, made up of 12 participants and eight faculty members, is expected to visit the Ho West, Agotime-Ziope, Adaklu and South Dayi districts as part of its research activities in the Volta Region.

Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies and leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Konadu, said the institution was established in 2023 as Ghana’s highest professional military education institution. He explained that the College trains senior military officers, officers from allied countries and senior public servants for strategic leadership roles.

He noted that the College adopts an annual theme to guide its academic and research activities, with this year’s focus being national cohesion, security and sustainable development.

According to Brigadier General Konadu, findings from the field studies will be compiled into a report and submitted to the relevant authorities to support policy formulation and national development planning.

He stressed that strengthening national cohesion remains important for maintaining national security and creating the conditions needed for sustainable development.

Welcoming the delegation, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu commended the Ghana Armed Forces for undertaking research on issues critical to national development.

He said peace, security and development are closely linked and urged Ghanaians to promote tolerance, patriotism and peaceful coexistence regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences.

Mr. Gunu also praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and commitment to national unity and noted the participation of officers from countries including Namibia, Rwanda and Zambia in the programme.
