No apology, but diplomacy: Israel pushes back on Ghana claim
An Israeli official has rejected claims that Israel apologised to Ghana over the deportation of three Ghanaian nationals.
According to Myjoyonline, the unnamed official emphasised that the matter was a “consular problem,” which had to be addressed through established diplomatic channels.
The official said Israel had raised the issue with Ghana “more than once” and noted that such matters were typically resolved quietly between “two friendly and mature states”.
Earlier Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, asserted that Israeli authorities had apologised and that both countries were working to de-escalate tensions.
Ablakwa reiterated that Ghana remained firm in demanding fair and dignified treatment for its citizens abroad.
The diplomatic dispute stems from the deportation of three Ghanaians from Israel under what Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described as unacceptable circumstances.
In a statement issued on December 10, 2025, the ministry said two of the individuals had travelled to Israel to attend a cybersecurity conference, while the third was on a religious pilgrimage.
In response, Ghana deported three Israelis.
