The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into suspected corruption surrounding a large shipment of palm oil that was supposed to transit through Ghana to Burkina Faso.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the OSP said the case involves 50 twenty-foot containers of palm oil, valued at approximately ₵25.8 million, which are alleged to have been diverted onto the local market without paying the required duties and taxes.

The shipment was officially declared as goods in transit to Burkina Faso, a status that allows cargo to pass through Ghana under strict customs supervision without domestic tax obligations.

Authorities estimate that the diversion may have caused the state a tax loss of around ₵10.5 million.

According to the OSP, preliminary investigations indicate that some customs officers, national security personnel, and clearing agents may have played a role in a coordinated corrupt scheme.

The probe stems from an intelligence-led operation conducted in November 2025, the statement added.

No arrests have been made yet, and the OSP has not disclosed any names.

The Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng ESQ reaffirmed the office’s commitment to protecting public funds and upholding integrity in public service.
