PAC probes sharp rise in YEA rent payments

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has raised concerns over a steep 72 percent increase in rent payments by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), which rose from GH₵3.2 million in 2023 to GH₵5.5 million in 2024.
Appearing before the Committee, YEA management led by the Minister for Youth Development and Employment, George Opare Addo, explained that the rent charges began after the facility the Agency occupies was handed over to Messrs K&A Developers in 2023.
The company now manages the property on behalf of the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Committee members, however, questioned why YEA leadership did not raise earlier red flags about the sharp increase in rental costs, stressing the need for accountability in the Agency’s expenditure.
The PAC hearing forms part of Parliament’s oversight mandate to scrutinise public accounts and ensure value for money in the use of state resources.
