Farmers’ Association demands apology from GRNMA Secretary over ‘derogatory’ comments

The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has strongly condemned remarks made by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, describing them as derogatory and disrespectful towards farmers.

In a statement issued on Friday, GNAFF said Dr. Tenkorang Twum, during an interview on Asempa FM’s political talk show Ekosii Sen, not only made “unprintable” comments about the Minister of Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, but also launched what the Association called “an unprovoked verbal attack on farmers.”

GNAFF expressed shock that such comments could come from a leader of a professional body, stressing that farmers and fishermen remain the backbone of Ghana’s economy, ensuring food security and sustaining livelihoods nationwide.

“It is highly disheartening, discourteous, and unacceptable for such a venerable group to be subjected to public ridicule in this manner,” the Association stated.

The group has given Dr. Tenkorang Twum 24 hours to retract his remarks and issue an unqualified apology to farmers and fishermen across the country.

Failure to do so, GNAFF warned, would compel it to “consider the appropriate steps necessary to defend the dignity and integrity” of its members.

The Association further called on Ghanaians to continue respecting the sacrifices of farmers and fishermen, who it described as the lifeline of national development.

The statement was signed by Dr. Abutu Kapori, General Secretary of GNAFF, and Michael Tetteh Kwetey (LL.M), President of the Association.
