Pass BECE to enjoy free SHS – Bawumia to candidates

Ghana’s Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Second Lady Samira Bawumia have, in separate Facebook posts, wished the over 500,000 Junior High School pupils good luck as they commence their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today, Monday, 10 June 2019.

“The academic journey to enjoy the flagship free SHS programme starts today. Success and victory are yours for the taking if you work hard enough,” Dr Bawumia said in his post.


“I join the rest of Ghana, to wish all our finalists well, as they begin the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). May Allah be their guide,” Mrs Bawumia’s read.


Over Five hundred thousand pupils from 16,871 schools are sitting.

Out of the 517,332 candidates, 263,616 are males and 153,716 are females.

Meanwhile, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has banned the use of cellular devices by the supervisors during the examination.
