Protect Adeti – GJA urges Nat’l Security

Mr Adeti said he has been receiving death threats following his decision to go public with a private conversation he had with the former Minister of State at the Presidency, Rockson Bukari, in which the minister is heard begging the journalist to kill a story involving a judge and Chinese mining firm Shaanxi in the region.
The GJA on World Press Freedom Day, which fell on 3 May 2019 said the nation is likely to pay a higher price if it fails to act on Mr Adeti’s case, which is similar to the circumstances that led to the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
GJA President, Mr Affail Monney, who was speaking at an occasion to mark World Press Freedom Day, said measures ought to be taken immediately by the security agencies to ensure the safety of the reporter.
“We vehemently condemn the threats and robbery perpetrated against the reporter, as we urge the national security to move with urgency to provide all the protection that he needs,” he said.
Mr Monney also welcomed the government’s intervention on safety mechanisms for journalists.
He expressed confidence that the plans will be implemented fully to help journalists perform satisfactorily.
