The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Cape Coast South Constituency in the Central Region, Mr George Ricketts-Hagan, has called on Assembly Members in his constituency to live exemplary and honourable lives rooted in integrity, accountability and selfless service to the people.

He made the appeal during the donation of 400 LED streetlights to the constituency, stressing that public office holders must conduct themselves in ways that inspire trust and confidence among residents.

According to Mr. Ricketts-Hagan, Assembly Members serve as the first point of contact between government and the people, and their actions—both in public and private life—should reflect the values of leadership, transparency, commitment and honour, which are essential for community development.

The lawmaker explained that the streetlight donation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve security, enhance visibility and boost economic activities within the constituency, particularly during nighttime.

He urged Assembly Members to view development projects not as personal achievements but as collective responsibilities aimed at improving the welfare of constituents.

Mr Ricketts-Hagan also cautioned Assembly Members against the alleged sale of streetlights intended to improve security in the metropolis.

He warned that such practices undermine public trust and defeat the purpose of development interventions.

“I promised the Assembly streetlights to help curb the menace of darkness in the city. I have also advised against the selling of these bulbs, which are meant to serve the people and not the interests of certain individuals,” he stated.

Receiving the streetlights on behalf of the Assembly Members, the Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Mr George Justice Arthur, expressed profound appreciation to the MP for his dedication to the welfare of the constituency.

He outlined plans for the distribution of the streetlights across the 30 electoral areas in Cape Coast South, noting that each area will initially receive 10 streetlights, with the remaining units to be allocated later based on additional needs.

“One of the major challenges confronting the Assembly is an inefficient lighting system.

With this donation, we will work together with Assembly Members to improve lighting and enhance security across the metropolis,” the Mayor assured.
